With Mav's fever sweeping the Metroplex (as it should), the Rangers have been an afterthought in some fans minds. But from the looks of it, they aren't minding it to much. Coming off a huge 11-2 win last night against the Indians, this years surprise team, the Rangers are rolling now, winning 6 of their last 7 and expanding their division lead to 1.5 games over the Mariners.
Upon Josh and Nellie Cruz's return, this team looks like the squad that started the season off with a 9-0 record and destroying Major League pitching, as well as great pitching from the young staff. Alexi Ogando is pitching extraordinary, and for me, is must see TV every time he is on the mound. Any thoughts of moving him back to the set up role once Brandon Webb or Scooter Feldman return needs to be squashed: he is our best pitcher right now. And what a surprise Endy Chavez has been? After an abysmal start, and a player that looked like he was simply buying his time in the Majors until our outfield healed up, has now become our everyday center fielder. And his path to the majors is an extremely interesting story (More on the story here). With a 3-5 game last night, following a 4-4 game on Thursday, Julio Bourbon (still recovering from that hamstring) is beginning to look like an afterthought, or potentially trade bait.
The Ranger's need to take advantage and really build this lead in the month of June, much like they did last year. And with all the pieces of the puzzle back in place, it is looking pretty promising.
